Really
good tips in here, but I would like to add some of my own. I believe
these three habits can help you have a well-rounded lifestyle—one that
balances in mind, body, and emotion.
Taking care of your body. Healthy
living can change the way your mind and body functions. For one, a
healthier lifestyle can make you less prone to illnesses or diseases,
which can help you live a longer life. To eat healthier, this means
getting rid of fast foods and sweets and incorporating more vegetables
and fruits into your diet. Daily exercise can also make your body
stronger and flexible.
Treat your body as a
vessel. If your body has a malfunction, it won’t perform to its fullest.
Dedicating time and effort to build a stronger body is a good
investment you should be making, especially while you are young, as it
will have long-term benefits when you get older.
Dropping social media. There’s
already too much stress with work, life, and relationships—social media
is no different. Social media had good intentions of connecting people,
however, it also created the irony of disconnecting people in real
life. Much of socialisation has taken place online leaving people more
distant in reality. Social media has also become a place of facades,
negativity, and fake news.
Studies have
shown that social media has negative impacts, especially on one’s mental
health. The study titled Use of multiple social media platforms and
symptoms of depression and anxiety: A nationally-representative study
among U.S. young adults found that exposure to a lot of social media
platforms can lead to negative feelings, depression, and anxiety.
As
such, it is best to detoxify your mind by only using one social media
channel in moderation, or completely drop it in your life. In a world
where popularity, self-worth, and value are determined by the number of
likes and shares on a post, it’s time to make real and solid connections
offline.
Reading more. Whether it’s
fiction or non-fiction, online articles or a physical book, reading has
been proven by several studies to have a lot of beneficial effects. The
most known benefit of reading is mental stimulation. Not only do we gain
knowledge from reading, but parts of our brain such as those
responsible for memory, language, and comprehension are also activated
or stimulated.
As such, regular reading is
said to slow down the process of ageing as well as dementia and
Alzheimer’s disease. Aside from these, reading is also proven to aid in
stress relief and focus. For more on the benefits of reading, you can
look up several studies and articles about it.
